Cuttack<\/b> is the former capital and the second largest city in the\u00a0eastern Indian\u00a0state of\u00a0Odisha. It is also the headquarters of the\u00a0Cuttack district. The name of the city is an anglicised form of\u00a0Kataka<\/b>\u00a0which literally means\u00a0The Fort<\/b>, a reference to the ancient\u00a0Barabati Fort\u00a0around which the city initially developed. Cuttack is also known as the\u00a0Millennium City<\/b>\u00a0as well as the\u00a0Silver City<\/b>\u00a0due to its history of 1000 years and famous silver filigree works. It is also considered as the judicial capital of\u00a0Odisha\u00a0as the\u00a0Odisha High Court\u00a0is located here. It is also the commercial capital of\u00a0Odisha\u00a0which hosts a large number of trading and business houses in and around the city. Cuttack is also famous for its\u00a0Durga puja\u00a0which is the most important festival of Odisha and West Bengal. Cuttack is also the birthplace of Netaji\u00a0Subhas Chandra Bose.<\/p>\n

The old and the most important part of the city is centred on a strip of land between the\u00a0Kathajodi River\u00a0and the\u00a0Mahanadi River, bounded on the southeast by Old JagannathRoad.The city, being a part of the\u00a0Cuttack Municipal Corporationconsisting of 59 wards.Cuttack stretches from Phulnakhara across the\u00a0Kathajodi\u00a0in the south to\u00a0Choudwar\u00a0in north across the Birupa River, while in the east it begins at Kandarpur and runs west as far as Naraj. Four rivers including\u00a0Mahanadi\u00a0and its distributaries\u00a0Kathajodi,\u00a0Kuakhai, Birupa run through the city. Further Kathajodi is distributed into\u00a0Deviand Biluakhai which often makes the geographical area look like fibrous roots.<\/p>\n

Cuttack and\u00a0Bhubaneswar\u00a0are often referred to as the Twin-Cities of\u00a0Odisha. The metropolitan area formed by the two cities has a population of 1.862 million in 2018.Cuttack is categorized as a\u00a0Tier-II\u00a0city as per the ranking system used by\u00a0Government of India.<\/p>\n

Cuttack an unplanned city, is characterized by a maze of streets, lanes and by-lanes which has given it the nickname of a city with\u00a0Baban Bazaar, TepanGalee<\/b>\u00a0and i.e. 52 markets and 53 streets.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div><\/div>
